Hope Orphanage and Expedition 360
Vlogging can help bring people together, it can be entertaining, but it can also help to bring about social justice. An example of this is What Jason Lewis is doing with Expedition 360. Jason recently posted a request on his vlog for help for orphans in East Timor.
The Hope orphanage was set up in 2001 to service the immediate needs of 25 children whose parents were either killed by the Indonesian occupation forces and militia in or around 1999, or who have since died of diseases such as tuberculosis. Check it out, share it with your friends, and help if you can.
Beginning at the Greenwich Meridian in East London in the summer of 1994, Jason Lewis and an eclectic band of travelling compatriots have bicycled, roller bladed and kayaked across continents and have pedaled Moksha, a one-of-a-kind pedal boat across the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.
According to the Guiness Book of World Records, no one has ever accomplished this immense task. Today, after 12 years and 26,000 miles the adventure is entering its final stages. China, India, Africa, the Middle East, and Europe lie ahead. Since its inception, Expedition 360, has been documented by an international crew with over 600 hours of broadcast quality Betacam and DV footage recorded to date.

Video Podcaster of the Week #12: Loiez
Loiez is a great video podcaster. I first encountered him in the video-podcaster flash meetings. His site is top notch. All his videos are beautiful. The audio on the videos is provocative too. I really like the way he set up his video podcast. It’s like a rocketboom style presentation, but it’s oh so pretty! Go watch and subscribe to Poesie des desires en desordre.

Vlogger Of The Week #11: Jan Mclaughlin
Jan Mclaughlin is at the heart of video-blogging. Right now she is on a vlogging road trip known in the vlogging community as “Road Node 101.” It’s an ambitious journey visiting vloggers all over the place in a van. She’s giving talks in all of the places she stops promoting and teaching video-blogging.
She’s a good person too. She’s positive, supports others, and she loves people. We are lucky in the vlogosphere to count her as a vlogger! I chatted with her earlier this evening and right now she’s shacked up for a few days in Saratoga Springs at the Marriott editing videos. She edited 6 vlog posts today! If you haven’t donated to her gas fund go now to her vlog and shell out some paypal cash! While you’re there, watch everything and subcribe to her feed!
I know one of Josh Leo’s favorite vlog posts is the one about the grocer. What’s yours?

Vlogger Of The Week #10: Richard BF
What is the future of videoblogging? Watching Richard’s conversation about videoblogging between 4 video clones of himself, gave me an idea, and I was hooked on his vlog. His instant vlogging manifesto is inspiring. His “Privacy is Dead” post made me reflect on how much I surf flickr and vlogs to get different perspectives on events that I’ve shared with other vloggers. His cat post is the best cat vlogging I’ve seen to date.
Go watch Richard’s videos and subscribe to his feed. Watching them will make you think about how the world is shifting under vloggers feet.

Vlogger Of The Week #9: Phillip
I’m playing that game where you get to pick where you’d like to be right now. Right now I’d like to be in the back-country of New Brunswick with Swordfight. I’d push refrigerators over, spy on cats, drink “full throttle,” and play old-school trouble with a person wielding a chainsaw. Sound like a place you’d like to visit too, right? Go watch, subscribe, and unleash your inner ninja.

Vlogger Of The Week #8: Rene
This last weekend, Zadi and I had the privilege of meeting and interviewing Rene in person at Webzine2005. Rene works on really cool collaborive vlog projects like the green thing project and this last weekend she had the ultimate project, “Meet The Zinesters.” She put up a green screen and video-taped everyone who would have it at the conference. Then she edited it so that their website showed up behind them as they were talking about it! What she ended up with is a series of videos that document the people on the bleeding edge of independent online publishing. Besides thinking up cool projects, Rene is an editing genius who does really cool things with video effects. I’d travel from Seattle to San Francisco in a heartbeat if she ever offered a class in Final Cut Pro. Go to her site, watch it all and Subscribe!

Vlogger Of The Week #7: Scratch
By day, she’s a documentary film-maker, but she goes home at night and becomes “Scratch,” making really great little videos for the internet. Scratch’s videos catch something very true and personal in each one and they can be really clever too. I became hooked to Scratch’s videos when I saw this video about waiting for the phone to ring. Since then I’ve become a diehard subscriber. Besides putting out cool videos, she’s started some great pass-it-on adventures like the squeeze videos and her exquisite corpse vlog thing. Go to her main page and stay up late and watch everything and then subscribe to her feed.

Vlogger Of The Week #6: Dave

Dave is amazing. Graham posted about his video where he made his face into a puzzle and since then he’s done a wide variety of stuff that I love. His cat is spellbinding and funny and his movie “What Am I” using footage from the Prelinger archive is extremely cool. His journal animation from his movie, “Extraordinary Things” is also unmissable. The great thing about Dave’s videos is that they are all great. I could link to them all, but you should really go explore them yourself!
