On The Road Again

It’s the one-year anniversary of the conception of Road Node 101 and Jan Mclaughlin of The Faux Press is off again on another vlog filled adventure. Click the picture to find out all about it.

Jan’s driving the mid-west this August. She’s planning to stop in Pittsburgh, Toledo, Chicago, Miniappolis, Fargo, Montana, Vloggercue, the Ozarks and then back to North Jersey.

Please contribute a tank of gas to Jan’s trip. She has a Paypal contribution button on her site. As Jan would say, press it because you can. If you’re on the route, meetup with Jan for a Meet The Vloggers. She could probably use a place to crash too.

Will Blip for Food

Will Video for Food

In addition to the website Will Video for Food being a fun and interesting site that focuses on the different ways of trying to monetize video content on the web, there was an interesting post about the blog owner Kevin Nalty consolidating his content to BlipTV and having a little difficulty. The result being that within 30 seconds he got help from one of BlipTV’s co-founders, Mike Hudack.

In these days of people posting about the horrible customer service stories of AOL and Comcast, I think tales of great customer service (especially when they are services in our very own vlogging community) should be celebrated.

This actually reminds me, I just started using BlipTV becuase I wanted to try out their cross-posting service to my blogspot account on my travelvlog and BlipTV seems to use HTML to create the title of the post. This results in my RSS feed not updating properly because (i think) the title of the post needs to be placed in the ‘title’ section of blogspot software, so I have to change it manually which is not a huge deal but it sorta makes the cross-posting process only 90% work as it it requires me to delete the html that BlipTV creates and cut and paste the title into the proper place in the blogger software.

So, early next week I will contact BlipTV about this and test what their support is like also.

Bad Rocketboom puns, pain, and life goes on.

While up frantically checking out technorati links to catch up on the very public split between the creative pillars of Rocketboom, Andrew Baron and Amanda Congdon, I found a post decrying the spate of bad puns about the Rocketboom, er, implosion. I’m as guilty as the rest.

Anyway, whatever happens in Andrew and Amanda’s future, the current situation is a bummer. Their show, to date, was an ambitious effort that combined a serious work ethic with adventurous content. It was not everyone’s cup of tea, but it was the preferred media beverage of around 300,000 viewers, and that’s a big deal. And that’s why there has been so much to do about the split. When something is that much of an attention node, it rocks the whole electronic nervous system we call the Internet when it ruptures.

A lot of talented, good folks worked on Rocketboom, like our very own Bre Pettis. I personally liked the way that Rocketboom stayed connected to the vlogosphere, sampling and shouting out vloggers on a regular basis.

Pain sucks, but it’s useful. It means something is wrong and needs to change. So the technologically mediated complex of social relationships they used to call Rocketboom is going to change. One thing is for sure, all the people involved in Rocketboom to date will keep making media. Because they need to, and because they can. And the pain will subside eventually. See you on the internets and at the bar.
