Isabella and Olivia Gerasole are two very talented young ladies; not only do they know their way around the kitchen, but they now have an award-winning vlog teaching kids how to cook. NPR had a great story today about this magic 8 and 10-year-old duo. Aptly nicknamed “Ham” and “Cheese,” they each have great stage presence and articulate their recipes beautifully. They just won the James Beard award for culinary excellence, which was the first-ever award given by this foundation in the webcast category. My current favorite video is sunrise salad, but don’t miss the wide variety of videos they offer, including how to make bruschetta, how to properly wash your hands, and how to make an oragami Hawaiian shirt. In addition to the vlog, they offer a printable version of each one of their recipes. They don’t have an RSS feed, but they do offer to send you an email when they post. Go watch them and then try out their recipes!

hmmm… not to be nitpicky here but there doesn’t seem to be any “blog” features: no comments, no dates, no RSS…looks like a video on a website to me

I would argue that the “email when they post” works as a subscription model… maybe even better than rss for most of the non-aggregating population.

But personally, I would also like it if they had a feed!

Thanks for your comments. We’re actually working on “Belle’s Blog” but it won’t be up until school let’s out in June.

Belle has her hands full with trying to fit homework in around her media appearances right now. (God, that sounds snobby but it’s true…at least for the moment.)

We’re doing the best we can. After all we’re just two girls and two women working out of a home kitchen.

Come visit us often and dig around in the site. We’re always open to suggestions.

I saw the info. about your website on the natinal new last night, and I thought it was fantastic! What a concept and how much fun. I teach handicapped preschoolers and I have a 4 year old son that loves to eat. I am always having him try new foods so he will not be a picky eater. I cannot wait until we can watch your segments and try them for ourselves. I am also not a good cook, so the girls can teach me quite a bit. Bravo girls!

I saw you on the national show also and you were all wonderful. Thank you for thinking to do this for the kids out there who need something to do besides play video games. :)

It turns out, there are a lot of kids cooking websites out there! Besides spatulatta, there is wonderkidcooking.com, jesscooking.com (jesscooking is a great website, just under major construction right now- keep checking back), also kidkook.net and cookin4kids.org

Anyway, these are some great websites that should also get a little recognition.
