They like to watch videoblogs

The Boston Phoenix | News & Features | I like to watch:

“A pretty artist chats silently with a toy giraffe. A guy sifts through his garage-sale junk, reminiscing about his old new-wave buttons. A man driving in his car talks to his wife about their thrilling weekend jaunt to CVS. Band nerds kill time at a high-school football game while the gridiron jocks kill each other. These are the people in your neighborhood. And they want you to see what they’re up to.”

It’s part of the democratization of media

WSJ.com - Vlogger (noun): Blogger With Video Camera:

“A few years ago, anyone with a new concept in video content would have faced huge hurdles obtaining mass distribution. They would have had to spend millions to develop a new network and even then might not have sold it to satellite and cable operators, whose channel lineups are getting saturated. Today, essentially all someone like Ms. Agnew needs to make a so-called video Web log, or vlog, is a digital camera that can capture moving images and high-speed Internet access.”

Vloggers from the 1900’s

DVD review: ‘Unseen Cinema’ - Yahoo! News:

“Old weird Americana takes a bow in the sprawling and richly rewarding DVD set “Unseen Cinema.”

Running almost 20 hours, the collection provides ample evidence that bold, experimental filmmaking thrived in the early days of moving pictures — decades before the avant-garde torch-bearer “Un Chien Andalou” seared its way onto screens in 1929.

“Unseen” curator Bruce Posner says his goal was to “provide the broadest possible spectrum of experimental films produced between the 1890s and 1940s” — roughly the period from Thomas Edison to WWII. And so we have everything from home movies to lavish production numbers, wispy dance performances to strident union propaganda, gothic horror to languid studies of life on a farm.”

It’s interesting that they’ve collected 20 hours of experimental films from beween 1890 and 1940 into a DVD set.

We’re producing experimental films right now, online. Future generations will be able to look back at what our lives are like. I feel like we are kindred spirits with those who have gone before.

Stay Away From EvilVlog!

This is on the advice of several leading edge vloggers who should know. Look if you dare. Participate if you are able. It was nice knowing you as you were. Prepare to be changed. Here is a brief video excert from last Saturday’s Videoblogging Video Conference, where Dave H asked “What is evilvlog.com?” The answer from Raymond of dltq.org is: Whatever you do, don’t visit evilvlog.com. Be afraid Dave, be very afraid.

Remix Champions

After a bit of a hiatus, we’re back! You knew we couldn’t leave you hanging for long, right? We come bearing good news, too! What could be better than that? We here at We Are The Media are happy to announce the winners in the 2005 Remix Month Contest. We know, we know. You’ve been salivating in anticipation of the possibility that you could be the remixer who wins our very awesome, very vloggy prizes! The response was tremendous. The competition was fierce. In the end, you’re all winners in our book. Don’t ever forget that (tear). Now, without further ado and grandstanding, allow us to introduce this year’s winners:

In the category of Best Overall Remix and winner of the Grand Prize - Phillip of Swordfight gets the prize with his remix simply titled WATM Remixoff2005. Straight, to the point, and totally rockin’! Way to go Phillip!

In the Category of “I Have to Win Something if I Stack the Deck” - Susan of Kitykity walks away knowing that people are both watching and loving her stuff! She’s done something like 100 videos in 3 months and they are filled with heart and technical snazzyness. If that doesn’t deserve an award, we don’t know what does. Congrats Susan!

In the highly sought after “Best Use of Steve Garfield, Josh Leo and Ian Mills Drunk” Category - Our own Jennifer Rundle takes home the award for illustrating just how dangerous alcohol can be with her remix titled Don’t Let This Happen to You…especially when coupled with video recording yourself! Kudos, Jen!

And last, but certainly not least, Chris Mulhern wins the award for “Best Use of Achived Footage” with his entry called San Francisco.

Awesome job, everybody! In order to claim your prizes you must drop your favorite WATM reporter  a note with your address (there’s a popularity contest for ya). In the meantime, rest assured that the “We” here at WATM are hard at work thinking about the next challenge we’re going to throw your way. Until then, keep your cameras ready, your editing skills honed, and your aggregators tuned in. Keep on vlogging!
