UpperBlip Tool Released

Blip.tv has released a special uploading tool that allows Blip users to upload multiple videos at a time to their Blip.tv account. The tool, named UpperBlip is a desktop aplication for both Windows and OS X. Jared (Blip Crewmember) says that though the tool is a bit more sparse compared to the website uploader, future updates will be coming. So, if you have been holding back on switching your video blog archives to Blip, now is the time to do it in one fell swoop with UpperBlip!

And the Emmy Goes to…A Video Blogger!
Could you be the next person to win an Emmy Award? The New York Times reports that this coming tuesday, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences is planning to make a special category for content created specifically for computers, cellphones and other hand-held devices, like the video iPod and PlayStation Portable.
The big studios are also quickly trying to take advantage of the computer/portable media player outlet by releasing their own content for these devices. It is yet to be seen as to whether the nominations for the awards will go to these corporate players that have dominated media, or if the grass-roots media makers like you and I will be in the running along with Pixar shorts and O.C. Spinoffs.
One thing is for sure, “Entries cannot be from television shows that have already been shown. Potential submissions include video blogs, web programs, event coverage, mobile phone serials and other video-on-demand content. They cannot exceed 20 minutes.” They said it right there, did you catch that…VIDEO BLOGS! Who knows, maybe that buddy if yours who made that great video about his cat will have a new golden accessory on his mantle come next May.

New Version of DTV Likes WATM
Well, at least the screenshot on their home page likes us. The folks at Participatory Culture have recently released a new version of DTV with a bunch of bug-fixes, streamlined features, and renegotiated navigation for ease of use. Even the aesthetics got a re-design to match the new look of iTunes. This new version makes watching video blogs easier (for the Mac user), and provides more variety in terms of video aggregators. And we are proud to be in their list of feeds (as shown in the image above.) Here is a list of all the upgraded features:
- A slick new interface for getting and watching a flow of videos.
- No watch/browse tabs. The whole channel is in one place.
- Faster.
- Intuitive expiration means you don’t have to worry about disk space
- Polished metal instead of brushed metal.
- Simpler channel settings, and working preferences.
- Hot new icon and .dmg background
check it out, it is just another great option in the wonderful world of video blog viewing.

We Are The Media Remixoff 2005
It’s remix month here at We Are The Media and that means it’s time for “WATM Remixoff 2005!”
Here’s how it works. You make a video remix. You use only legally remixable material like your own stuff, creative commons or public domain material. Young kids watch our site, so it’s got to be appropriate for young eyes too.
TAG IT
Once you’ve got it posted to your blog, tag it [remixoff2005] and we’ll find it and start posting the submissions to our site. Tagging your post [remixoff2005] is your entry form into the competition.
Here the code to put on your blog to make the [remixoff2005] tag show up in your post:

Or, if tagging is too tricky, just send an email to any We Are The Media reporter and when we see your tag or get your email, we’ll post your submission to our site! Technorati has a help page for tags.
Our panel of judges will then deliberate in a secret flash conference and meld minds until a winner is chosen.
The grand prize winner will be honored with a snazzy badge on our sidebar for the entire month of December. This snazzy badge will be sending the link love to the winner’s video blog all month! We will also be having 1st, 2nd, 3rd place, people’s choice, and honorable mentions.
So go remix! You can enter as many times as you like, but the sooner you post it, the sooner it gets posted to We Are The Media for people to watch! The deadline for entry is Midnight November 30th GMT. If you don’t post it before then, you’re out of the game!

Vloggers provide free content to networks
TV Week: Viewers Now Programmers:
“Experimentation with viewer input is imperative for networks to compete for viewers’ attention, said Tom Tercek, president of SMG Access, a creative division of Starcom MediaVest that develops content for marketers for new mediums.
“You give people control of media and they will use it,” Mr. Tercek said. “If you don’t give them control, you will lose.”
Lifetime, for instance, will dabble with a forum for fans to connect with each other by participating in the Lifetime Video Lounge. The new initiative affords viewers opportunities early next year to create and submit video of themselves around a theme or event such as Valentine’s Day…
Viewers will then vote on the best entries in various categories to be posted in Video Lounge and possibly developed into broadband series of mobisodes.
“Everybody wants their 15 minutes of fame, and quite frankly, it’s cheaper programming,” Ms. Black said.
Also early next year, Comedy Central will run contests in its newly launched broadband site MotherLoad, [ Ed note: Windows only ] inviting viewers to submit their own home-brewed comedy content for fans to vote on, said Beth Lewand, VP of digital media for Comedy Central.”
I hope that programmers will compensate video blogger’s for the unique and creative content that they can provide.
Will video bloggers cash in?
What do you think will happen by next year?

Fill This Need: Vlog Camera Review Site
One of the most common pleas for help on the Yahoo Videoblogging Group are for what camera to buy. This is a real need, as the turnover in models is swift, and yesterdays great camera may not be available today. I find myself in this position today, as I try to figure out what model to purchase for 150 teens in the Bronx who will be starting vlogs.
So please, I’m begging, somebody start a site which reviews cameras for bloggers. This would be so useful. I bet whoever did this would get a grocery cart full of free cameras from manufacturers. A site like this would also push camera companies to take vloggers into consideration.
Meanwhile, anyone know of a durable, rechargeable, still camera that shoots video and that is currently available and under 300$? If so, leave a comment below. C’mon, it’s for the youth. Thanks!
