Chris Ritke Interviews Bre Pettis

bre and chris

The 49media podcast has struck again with an interview with our very own Bre Pettis. Find out about what Vlogging means to Bre, what WATM is all about, and a few hilights from webzine. Bre gives such a great philisophical view of video blogging and the impact that it will have in changing the world. Bre’s excitement is palpable in the interview.

Webzine Workshop: You Are The Media

Here’s a quickie video I made as a demo for the Webzine 2005 workshop titled “You Are The Media: Video Blogging 101″. I could only attend Webzine for one day, but it was great fun seeing “old” friends like Eric, Schlomo, Renegade, Zadi, Carlton, Chris, Josh Wolf, Enric, Shawn and “new” friends Bre Pretis (you can see him way in the back in the picture above) , Charles Hope, Mike Huduck and Josh Kinberg.

I also had the pleasure of listening and conversing with a lot of interesting people about all kinds of ideas including tagging, videoblog hosting, RSS, robotics and, of course, being the media.

Ich bin ein Vlogger

Speak German? If so check out Radio Deutschland’s (Germany’s version of NPR) interview on vlogging. If you don’t understand German you can still pick out some vlogging lingo here and there such as ‘Amanda Congdon’, ‘Rocketboom’, ‘Phil Hamilton’, ‘Grassroot journalism’, ‘low budget’, and even the ever popular… ‘impeach Bush’.

And if you listen really closely at the end you can hear a german translator speaking over WATM reporter Graham Walker (aka yours truly) discussing Travelvlog.

Taking the Node on the Road

Road Node 101

In the world of self-published media, vlogs have a great deal of growing to do. One of the great things about the relatively small vlogging community is that most members are passionate about what they do. They love making movies, posting them on the web, and sharing little pieces of their lives with an audience. What you get when you take that passion, a great deal of creativity, the need for growth, and shake them together like one of 007’s martinis is Jan McLaughlin. In a couple of days, Jan will be embarking on a trek through the Northeast United States and parts of Eastern Canada. The mission, which she has chosen to accept, is to spread the Word of Vlog to anyone who might be interested. All the information that you could ever want about Jan’s trip, including an itinerary, can be found at The Road Node 101 Wiki. I urge you to take a look at all she is planning to do. I’m truly excited that I get to be a part of Road Node 101 this weekend when Jan stops by Saratoga Springs, NY for a visit and interview. Check back within a week for video.

Have your cameras ready. You never know when she might pop up in your neck of the woods. Safe travel, Jan!

Report It Now in October

Goodnight Goodluck Movie StillThe upcoming movie “Good Night, And Good Luck” takes place during the early days of broadcast journalism in 1950’s America. It chronicles the real-life conflict between television newsman Edward R. Murrow and Senator Joseph McCarthy and the Permanent Sub-committee on Investigations (Government Operations Committee).

Report It Now is a promotional site for the film that will start accepting and displaying citizen journalism in the form of text, audio and video on October 7th.

I’ll be interested in learning more about their terms of service.

Cole on the Middle East | evolvetv.tv

evolve.tv Cole KosOn Sunday evolvetv.tv went live on the internet with an alternative to mainstream media talk shows. Their first show: The Issue: Cole on the Middle East featured Markos Moulitsas of “Daily Kos” interviewing Professor Juan Cole of “Informed Comment” about Iraq.

I was involved in the project with advice on videoblogging and filmed some behind the scenes footage to document the process.

It was exciting to see the passion of the producers, who with no funding or backing are trying to put out a weekly talk show that intelligently speaks to today’s important issues.

Vlog Europe Interview Remix #1

Sadly, wearethemedia.com did not have the funds to fly me to Vlog Europe 2005. Happily, I was able to conduct an
interview
with one of the conference participants, Ryanne Hodson, via my Vlog Europe Interview Remix Kit and the Vlog Europe Press Pool. XOLO.TV is also a great source of conference footage. If you post a Vlog Europe remix, using the kit, or other sources, we’d love to hear about it. Meanwhile, I guess there’s always VE ‘06 to dream about.
