Yesterday, I was given the opportunity to take the long-awaited upgraded version of FireANT for MAC for a spin. It is still in beta form, but The Creators are pretty confidant of a release tomorrow. (Sep. 9, my birthday!) There has been so much work being done for the Windows version of FireANT that us MAC users were kind of getting jealous and impatient. Well out of the blue, I got an e-mail with the new version as an attachment. I opened it up and started refreshing my feeds. Same old great features, but now there are some added bonuses that are quite helpful. Take a look at the new layout: Screen Shot.
You will notice a nice little bunch of buttons in the bottom of the playlist/channel window. (that’s right they are the same thing, just toggle between the two, no more playlist below the viewer) In addition to the new layout, a new slew of new upgratde features are as follows:
1. you can search for videos in Yahoo Video Search, Del.icio.us tags, mefeedia tags, or FireANT tags. so type in Daily Show or Katrina…and FireANT makes a feed for this search…and videos appear. this is huge because videos no longer have to exist in someone’s feed for them to be available.
2. You can click on any Channel..and watch any videos downloaded from that channel.
3. you can change the window size from big, bigger, biggest.
4. you can tag a video in del.icio.us
5. email the link of a cool video to a friend
6. you can drag videos INTO fireANT
7. you can drag cool videos OUT of FireANT so you can save them..or edit later.
8. you can “flag” a video so it doesn’t get deleted.
9. you can set FireANT so it deletes videos after being watched…or set aside a certain number of GB to FireANT videos before they are deleted. Great file management.
10. you can choose where you want the videos to be stored
Expect to see the new version available for download VERY soon. the great thing about the FireANT gang is that they are currently getting input from people (like myself) who are testing this new version and commenting on ways to improve it even further! Does this mean that we will be getting an upgraded upgraded version sometime in the near future? I hope so, after all , who doesn’t like upgrades?
