webzine 05
What happens when you get 300 DIY Media-Making geeks together? I don’t know either, but I’m going to find out by going to Webzine 2005 in San Francisco September 24-25. I’ve applied to be a speaker at it too!

Chris Ritke Interviews Vloggers

49 media

Chris Ritke, the host of the 49 Media podcast, has been interviewing people who are creating web log media content. He has a great archive of interviews with all kinds of bloggers, but most importantly to us, video bloggers including: Jay Dedman, Eric Rice, Maximilian, Annie, Clark Saturn, Markus Sandy, and Renegade.

It is so great to hear the “behind the scenes” information behind some of my favorite vlogs. Chris is doing an awesome job with this whole project! Subscribe to the feed and listen to some great interviewers with movers and shakers in the web log media world.

Meet the Vloggers: San Francisco

vloggers

Barb, over at TheSocialSoftwareWeblog made an awesome post giving a nice play-by-play of the video blogging presentation at the San Francisco Apple Store. She even includes the Q&A with the Audience. It is good to see that video blogging is getting a little bit more coverage. Were gonna take over the world!

Audience: This aspect of the internet is powerful. It’s a way to diffuse the crushing propaganda of our government. This is useful for people’s lives, not just how I can make a buck. This is a medium that is much bigger than any individual thing.”

Saving The World From Rats by Videoblogging!

vlogger vs. rats
By day, Jonny Goldstein teaches art to kids. Then in the evening he transforms into the funniest man in NYC. Besides making people laugh in the comedy clubs of Gotham City, he’s got a comedy show on a local cable network in New York that you can check out on the web too.

Yesterday he spoke about videoblogging at the apple store in NYC and he gave a multi-media presentation focused on showing how videoblogging can change the world. Go see how “Jane” uses video-blogging to save the world from the rats in this illustrated story. You can see WEARETHEMEDIA.COM is in the same category with the city council, local tv, and the mayor!

Vlog Europe! Lingo

View Movie
As many of you know Vlog Europe is coming up, so dust off your language tapes and get ready to speak Dutch with Maximilian before heading over! I love this video for it’s honesty–I, too, tried to learn Dutch from a tape and found it incredibly difficult.

Check out this great post and then head over to Max’s brilliant site, where among other things you can join his Eband!

The Growth of Vlogmap

vlogmap2

Matt over at Vlogmap.org put together this little feature to show the growth of Vlogmap. This page shows a new vlog every 50 milliseconds in the order that they were submitted. It is a really great visual way to see how videoblogging is spreading all over the world! I am just waiting for the moment when you can’t see any more of the united states because it is completely covered with pins on the map.

Raymond Kristiansen also made a little promo video using the vlogmap growth.

Electronic Vehicle Videoblog

Watch movie 1.2 min 5.1 MB
Have you ever wanted an electronic car but haven’t known all of the ins and outs of owning one? To find out what is involved follow Danny Fleet’s Electronic Vehicle Videoblog, Danny’s Contentment. Danny started posting videos this month, however the process of purchasing a car has taken much longer. I have to say that I am a little jealous of Danny; London has made it very convenient to use electric cars, even if the details are still being ironed out.

Check out this cool site and explore London from an EV point of view.

Vlogger of the Week #3: Graham Walker

Graham Walker took a trip to Tibet, and thanks to his awesome videos we went right along with him! In his Travel Vlog, Graham shows us the most amazing people and moments from a land that not many people get to see. Tibet is a land that has been hidden from the western world, and seeing these videos in such clear quality makes anyone just want to experience it for themselves.

Graham must have used a great camera to capture these videos, because the dimensions of the videos are larger than your normal 240×320, and they are crystal clear. These amazing videos are really well edited, the music fits just right, and the subject matter is exquisite!

The Travel Vlog is a great window into another culture, another way of life, another style of videoblogging. You will not be dissapointed.

Smartphones Get Smarter

Jason Romney from Netvideo
Watch movie
Jason Romney over at Netvideo recently interviewed Nigel Dews, director of Sales and Marketing at Hutchison 3, about the capabilities of Smartphones. Hutchison 3 is a media distributor out of Australia that offers streaming broadband multi-channeled content via Smartphones. The content is currently small soundbites from several different news sources, and Mr. Dews hopes to attract more media sources for maximum diversity.

The discussion covers topics such as IPTV, global vs local content, security applications for PDAs, and the future of Smartphones, which includes a security device you can link to your handset that monitors your home (Wired reported that Motorola is coming out with a similar product in the US). Another great thing about these handsets is the use of something called a Net Connect Card, which allows you to link to a broadband connection and stay connected even while driving.

Check out this interview and then head over to Netvideo’s site for tons of great tech-talk.

Underground Film: Steal This Disc

Watch movie 1.7 min 8.3 MB
OK, so Steal This Disc isn’t a vlog, but it is one of the funniest things I have seen recently on the web. Steal This Disc is actually an independent film written and directed by Nat Sigaloff and starring a very compelling Callard Harris as Brett Chase, who is dealing with the issues of video piracy. Check it out and, while you’re there, peruse the other independents.

Please Note: This video contains adult language. The opinions expressed in this film are not necessarily reflective of those at We Are The Media.
